Persian rugs

Iranian rugs cover at least 30 percent of the entire carpet trade in the world. We all know Persia for its rugs even though we may not even associate it with modern day Iran. There are more than 1.2 million Iranians involved in weaving rugs and they are exported to more than a hundred countries in the world.
Persian rugs are extremely beautiful and woven with much care. They often carry a great bit of detailing and artwork on them. Most Persian rugs weavers prefer to produce miniature Persian paintings but today they make rugs to suit the private tastes of their American and European customers.
Luxury, wealth and class are all terms associated with Persian rugs. They are a collector’s item and the older the rug the more expensive it is deemed to be. The Persian rugs are broadly classified into two types: Persian city rugs and Persian tribal rugs. Both are usually named on the basis of the city in which they were woven and manufactured.
Some of the most common names are Afshar rugs, Tabriz rugs, Kashan rugs, kirman rugs, Baluch rugs, Shizan rugs and Wiss rugs; all belonging to various cities and tribes residing in Iran.
